Samaria Hotel, hotel in Chania Town

Located in the heart of Chania, within 450 metres from the Venetian harbour, the modern Samaria Hotel is ideally situated just above the main square, next to the central bus station.

Perfect in every way. Rooms were clean and comfortable, serviced every day, including toiletries and bottles of water. Staff were very helpful and professional. Breakfast was wonderful... lots of choice and constantly replenished. Pool area small but lovely. We also used the gym. Hotel is located 2 minutes' walk to busy/central area, and less than 10 minutes to harbour. Would 100% recommend.

El Greco Hotel is located in the Old Town of Chania, right next to the Venetian harbor and only 500m from the beach of Nea Chora.

Brilliant location in the old town. Very close to port area but far enough away to not be bothered the crowds. Staff were friendly, particularly the receptionist who also helped with local restaurant recommendations. Restaurant next door was excellent, on her recommendation. We had a lovely buffet breakfast with very good choices and there were tables outside, which we used. The hotel has a lift. Room was very clean with good range of toiletries. We had a wonderful, well equipped balcony. Sorry we only stayed one night in this lovely hotel.

Amphitrite Hotel, hotel in Chania Town

Located right on the Venetian harbor of Chania, Amphitrite offers views of the old harbor, the lighthouse and the Cretan Sea.

It is so central but so quiet because it is located in a small side street. The friendliness of the staff is really beyond of what I have experienced before (and I travel a lot). The rooms are small but very stylish and you have everything you need in there - the cleaning service is also top notch. What a great hotel experience!

Modern looking hotel from the outside and traditional furnishings inside. Location was good. Only a 10 minute walk to the port and 2 minutes to the beach and restaurants. Nice sized balcony and good to have a lift. Car parking was an added bonus. Only a few minutes walk to a bakery, supermarket and cafe.

In short, if you’re contemplating where to stay in Chania, just stay here. We are definitely coming back when we’re back in Chania. George, the owner, was the best part of our trip in Chania. He was kind, helpful and very responsive. He will ensure you feel welcomed and have the best time in Chania. He looked up the weather for the destinations we want to visit to help us plan our itinerary and he prepared us a printed map of Chania with handwritten recommendations of his favorite restaurants. He even moved us to a room with a nicer view on the second night. The rooms are also super clean and had a great view of the old port if you’re on the first floor and above. You get daily top up of Nespresso pods, which is a nice touch. The hotel is also located at a very beautiful and quiet part of the old town, which is nice as you can get away from all the hustle and bustle. But everything is still within walking distance. If you’re contemplating where to stay, just stay here, as you won’t regret it!

FAQs about hotels in Chania Town

A Charming Crossroads of Civilisations

Situated on the west part of Crete, the city of Chania is the second largest in this beautiful Greek island. Featuring rich history, breathtaking architecture and pristine beaches, Chania will take you to a fascinating journey through time.

Get your camera and wander around the narrow alleys of the old town or walk on the romantic promenade area of the old harbour with the iconic lighthouse. Set on a small hill, the central part of the town is called Kastelli and is populated since the Neolithic period.

A crossroads of civilisations, the city of Chania offers a harmonic combination of Venetian, Turkish and traditional Greek architecture. Do not miss the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of Chania, the Mosque of the Janissaries and the Venetian Fortification Walls.

The vibrant area of the new and old town has local taverns serving delicious regional specialties and tsikoudia. If you are lucky you might hear a Cretan mantinada, an improvised folk song about the everyday life.

Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, the Chania International Airport is about 17 km from the city centre and offers year-round and seasonal flights to London, Brussels, Athens and Thessaloniki. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Chania.

Getting around the town is easy as walking, always found a new side street to explore. The Harbor is beautiful at all times of day with tons of food options, just stay clear of restaurant servers telling you they are the best in town its a scam(some times). Old town area is full of venders(mostly the same stuff on each street)some have different prices and you can haggle a bit. People watching is really fun here, you always will find a character or too, lol. Around every corner of Old Town is another great picture from its Land Marks to just the ambience of the town at night. All in all its always a great time in Chania.

Chania is a little beach town with just enough activity to have a city like buzz without all the hustle and bustle. It's a great place to anchor yourself if you want to go explore the beaches on the other side of the island, without having to stay in smaller towns/villages. Chania has a great mix of local restuarants, with some international flare and something for everyone- food, drinks, entertainment. The old town itself is huge and there are so many little alleys and spots to explore that we couldn't finish this time. The harbour boasts alot of activity and you'd be surprised to find a good mix of locals and tourists. A MUST DO if you're in Crete!

The historic old town is magical. It also caters very well for people who love Greek food. The Venetian area is quaint and very attractive. Unfortunately the graffiti spoils most of the Turkish area. Altogether it is a wonderful place to visit…I do so as often as possible.

Chania town is an architectural delight with it's predominantly Venetian architecture. Lovely selection of bars, restaurants and shops. We do wish they would ban the horse drawn carriages. We know people need to make a living but not at the expense of horses being subjected all day to the blazing heat of the sun. We were able to see all that the Old town of Chania had to offer on foot without the need to add to animal suffering! As with most Greek Islands we have visited, the coastline is very beautiful however it is spoilt with rubbish accumulated everywhere. No attempt seems to be made to clean up, both to the detriment of the wildlife and aesthetically. Surely enough is made from tourism to plow some money back into looking after such a beautiful island. Shame on the authorities for not doing more.

We had an excellent stay at Monte Vardia. The hotel is located on the main road leading from the airport to Chania so it was conveniently located for us as we explored the area. Parking is readily available. The hotel was clean, good value for money, nice breakfast and a wonderful pool. Above all the staff were wonderful. This was the second time we'd stayed at the Nefeli after flying into the airport and before setting off for the south of Crete. It's a really nicely kept hotel with great rooms in a perfect position for stopovers. The main bus station is right across the road, the harbour is a few minutes walk away, and the shops and restaurants are all around. We had wonderful top floor rooms with large balconies this time and everything was so perfect that we wished we could stay a week or more.

Ordering transport, upgrade of room, help with all practical matters etc. Stayed at 5 star luxury hotels and their service did not match Samaria. -Location just 5 mins walk to old town and 1 min from central bus station. -Great rainfall shower.

The hotel is in old town which was great as a base to explore. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel has a cute style and unique boutique feel, specially the old Venetian architecture.
